Snow day...

I love a good snow day. LOVE it! And today certainly qualifies. At least a foot so far, plus blowing and drifting. A full-on blizzard. We're home and safe. So we'll celebrate!

We had plans to go to "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" at Stepping Stones Theater in St. Paul. But as soon as I woke up this morning, I knew that wasn't going to happen. (and thankfully it was canceled anyway). So it was officially a stay at home day. We were snowed in and we were just going to have FUN!!

No better way to start the day than by jumping on the bed.

Plain old lolligagging too...Really, who wants to get out of bed on a snowy day? We could have rolled around all day!

With Henry's new haircut yesterday, he decided a mohawk was in order this morning. (monkey see, monkey do...)

Henry tried to give me a serious look, but it didn't quite work - - at least not for long.

Today's prompt from Picture the Holidays was to find something in nature that reminded us of the holidays. There it was right on top of Henry's head. A mohawk Christmas tree. I figured that it was all nature's work - plus a little hair gel for staying power.

When we headed downstairs, Anna needed a taste of the snow. That is her thing lately. Eating snow. (Thanks to Henry's stern warning, she knows to stay away from the yellow snow!) I swear some days her diet consists of snow and chocolate milk. Really. (I'm such a bad mother....)

Here, I think she looks like a cross between the Cat in the Hat and a Russian babushka.

After an extra healthy breakfast of snow and Christmas cookies (we were celebrating the snow day, after all), Anna did one of her favorite things. She played in the sink. Give this kid a faucet, some soap, and a few bowls and spoons, and she'll entertain herself for an hour. Plus, she added snow to the mix for extra fun.

Henry camped out on the couch and searched the internet for new Lego sets he could add to his Christmas list. If we bought him every Lego set on his list, we'd have to take out a second mortgage on the house.

I'm also posting a picture of our Christmas tree. Not because it is stunningly beautiful or the best we've ever had. No, not even close. I'm posting it because it is THE THIRD DAMN TREE WE'VE HAD IN TWO WEEKS.

Yes, third! And I figured if I posted it as "the official tree of our 2010 holiday season," then maybe it would be our last. Because I'm not decorating any more trees. This year. Period.

The first tree was a live pre-cut tree. And, it was so dry within days that it was on the edge of self-combustion. So, we tossed that one out the back door, and decided to try an artificial tree for the first time ever. I bought one I thought we'd like. And I hated it. Too tall and skinny. But of course, I had to decorate it, thinking it would grow on me. Nope. Not even close. I cringed every time I saw it. So, I undecorated a tree for the 2nd time in as many weeks, packed it up and took it back.

Continuing our loser-tree saga, I bought this one yesterday and we decorated it this morning. Yes, I'll admit it - - decorating 3 trees in less than 14 days takes a little bit of joy out of the process. But I'm happy to report that I can live with this one.

HOWEVER - if this tree somehow fails us, we're putting presents under the ficus plant in the corner.

Seriously!

So, there it is. Our snow day. And, I'm sure there is more fun yet to come. (I guess this post was my very own "AS IS.")

Wherever you are, I hope you are warm and safe and enjoying the day just as much as we are!!

  1. I thoroughly enjoyed this post! I have to say, wow, three trees! You are a more patient soul than me! I have a friend in Minneapolis who was bracing for this snow storm- oh I'd love to see some snow!

  2. Lucky you! A snow day! Here in Massachusetts it was 55 and it poured. We want snow!

That jumping feet photo is seriously amazing! Not sure if I commented on the PH forum but definitely noticed it before getting your email. I'm betting that Tracey will love it! Your Christmas tree story has me laughing out loud and freaking my husband out.

Thank you so much for the kind email. It made my day, or at least what remained of my day. :) I started my photo journey last winter when I began having anxiety attacks about my 10-year-old growing up and leaving us. I decided I needed a serious hobby and chose photography. I love it so much and see that you do, too. Love your work!
